Untainted and unspoiled, there is much to be discovered on Cat Island. Named after the infamous pirate, Arthur Catt, the island runs deep with history and culture. Its 150 square miles of natural landscape offer every traveler a rich Bahamian experience. You’ll find the plot of land where Sir Sidney Poitier’s boyhood home once stood. You’ll also discover the birthplace of The Bahamas’ indigenous rake and scrape music, along with numerous myths and folklore that still hold a place in Bahamian culture today.

Located on Cat Island, Mt. Alvernia has the highest elevation in the Bahamas, at 206 feet above sea level. On the hill sits The Hermitage, a medieval monastery hand carved by Father Jerome out of rock, along with the steps leading up to it.

Guests stay at the Orange Creek Inn, a locally owned motel within sight of a gorgeous beach and productive bonefish flats! The flats and mangroves of Orange creek are a great place to fish for tailers in the morning and evening, as well as stalking bonefish during high sun.

The comfortable and clean Orange Creek Inn has air conditioning, wi-fi, satellite tv, and excellent cellphone coverage! Next door is the best grocery store on the island, where you can buy food for your meals. All rooms have small kitchenettes where you can cook & keep your beer cold. Dining out at one of the local restaurants is also an option. Kayak rentals are available.

A great island for exploring, Cat offers DIY anglers many extensive creek systems to fish. Orange Creek, Bennetts Creek, Musgrove Creek, Fernandez Bay Creek, Armbrister & Frankfort Creeks are just some of the areas anglers can fish. There are also countless bays and beaches to fish along both sides of the island, where anglers can hunt bones, jacks, snapper, barracuda and the occasional tarpon.
